It is used to treat breast cancer in women along with other treatments, such as surgery and radiation. It is used in women after menopause (end of monthly menstrual periods). It is in a class of medications called nonsteriodal aromatase inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of oestrogen the body makes.
